0

In today’s age of R&B music, much of the sound of the genre for the past few years have been most of the trap-ridden type beats with artist like Bryson Tiller, The Weeknd, and Ty Dolla Sign taking advantage of it and evolving the sound. This Ultimately has lead people to say that the original sound of R&B has died off with the genre evolving into new sounds and claims nobody is talking about love anymore. Thanks to Playlist curators like R&B Radar a multifaceted platform by CEO Tommy Banks that broadcast a lot of indies and rising R&B acts through various playlist, radio show, and artist spotlight that’ll assure you that R&B is just fine. R&B Radar make it easier to find artists who’re now bridging the gap between Old School and the New Era of R&B with this new resurgence of the genre. So with the courtesy of R&B Radars blessing, we present to you 12 Emerging Artist from R&B Radars 2019 Freshman R&B List.

Summer Walker

A singer, songwriter, and producer, Summer Walker is R&B’s most anticipated rising acts. The Atlanta, Georgia-based artist is known for her elemental contemporary R&B that reflects off her inspiration drawing from highly praised artists Erykah Badu, Jimi Hendrix, and Amy Winehouse. Her ability to arrange her distinct brand of R&B which is very present in her smash single “Girl’s Need Love” which caught steam over the latter half of 2018 and later in 2019 getting a remix feature with Drake. Also in her latest projects “Last Day of Summer” she displays her raw thoughts, confidence, doubt, love, and everything that comes with womanhood. The four-track EP “CLEAR” we see Summer Walker merging her vulnerability with a Neo-jazz set. Sign to Atlanta based label-collective LVRN who has introduced us to talented acts 6lack, and DRAM, so judging off their respective success Summer Walker is greatness walking upon us and we’re here for it.

Lucky Daye

Formerly known as David Brown for his songwriting ability when he used to co-write for R&B stars Keith Sweat, Ne-Yo, Ella Mai, and Mary J. Blige. Lucky Daye is a singer with a solid sound that’s full of live funk, strings, and bass that’s drawing a similar comparison to R&B counterparts William DeVaughn, BJ The Chicago Kid, Daniel Caesar, and Frank Ocean. He is part of the new R&B contemporary wave of artist that’s testing the sound by merging it with other genres. Signing with RCA imprint Keep Cool he released two latest project’s “I” and “II”. The standout tracks “Roll Some Mo”, and “Real Games” give a colorful inviting soundstage that comes with “Rap-Talk” cadence that elevates him beyond your normal R&B singer. It’s clear Lucky Daye isn’t looking to fit into today’s sound of R&B but as many other artists are doing he is blending in new sounds to help keep the genre alive!

Kiana Lede

Not first known for her singing but you may have seen her as Zoe Vaughn from her brief stint on MTV’s horror series “Scream”. The multi-talented Kiana Lede is making waves onto the R&B scene with her breakout song “EX” where you’re able to hear her buttery vocals. The Arizona Native now based in Los Angeles first busted onto the scene with her #SoulFoodSessions in 2016 doing popular covers acoustically generating over 50 million-plus views. This would eventually catch the eye of Republic Records who would eventually sign her. Since then she would go on to contribute to “Big Spender” off the Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack and release her debut EP “Selfless”. Her lyrics are filled with confessional and catchy emotions that’s very present on her single “Fairplay” which has amassed more than 10 million streams. Kiana Lede is destined to break out as her anticipated album is due to drop this year expect it to be charged with a raging fusion of R&B, Pop, Alternative, and Indie sound.

Liza

Quickly becoming the one to watch in her hometown of Toronto the talented songstress is poised for a Big 2019. Within the past few months she has opened for the legendary Lauryn Hill, performing alongside Kehlani’s DJ Noodles, and at the end of the year performed for the annual New Year’s Eve show at city hall which there were 50,000 people in attendance for the event. Thanks to her early success Liza’s growing fanbase is eagerly awaiting her sophomore project which is due in the spring. For now, while we wait for her project her latest single “Morning Glory” produced by Akeel Henry who is known for his work with Jeremih, Ty Dolla Sign, and DVSN is an ode to the perfect moment of peace you feel after waking up to the one you love.

Macro McKinnis

Virginia-born R&B artist has quietly risen to the forefront of R&B’s new wave of brilliant talent. Growing up in a religious household listening to gospel music was the norm throughout his youth. That was until he would get a hold of his sister’s old mp3 player which had a load of songs on it. He recalls “She had everything from Puff Daddy and Chris Brown to Keisha Cole, Alicia Keys, and Ne-Yo. I was obsessed!”. Marco McKinnis holds true to his gospel roots but also reflects his parents’ extensive jazz collection. His latest single “Another Love” off his debut EP “Underground” you can clearly hear the influence of the jazz arrangement with the deep soulfulness we love in R&B that sounds like it comes straight out of a Sunday service. Coming from under the Republic Records umbrella we expect Marco to preach his soul out into the mainstream of R&B.

Pink Sweat$

Pink Sweat$ singing career grew into existence merely as an act of urgency and “The universe [giving] me a reason to sing again” as he states in an interview with Billboard. Before taking up singing seriously the Philly Native now residing in NYC was happy with just songwriting and being behind the scenes as he had written songs for Florida Georgia Line, MAX, and Tierra Whack. The motivation for the uplift in his singing career was his peers around him recognizing his talent and then came “achalasia” a rare disease that deteriorates the nerves in your esophagus and from that point on, he knew his mission as a singer. Pink’s music is rooted in R&B and Soul, but he strips genre-specific production to blend more of his ever-fresh melodies and introspective lyrics into the song. Signing a publishing deal with Artist Publishing Group and then signing with Atlantic Records due to his astounding songwriting he would go on to release “Volume 1” and “Volume 2” which has racked up tens of millions of streams. The difference between Pink Sweat$ and a lot of R&B acts is the soft acoustic ballad sound he brings to his music as most of his tracks are drum-less and focus more on instruments one notably being the guitar which you can hear on standout tracks “Honesty”, and “Drama”. This is not the usual approach R&B artist are taking today as trap-drums have been a heavy influence in the genre today. Pink Sweat$ is geared up for a great 2019 as he’ll be touring the US and UK sharing his newfound beloved soothing ballads lullabies.

Tone Stith

Rising in the ranks of R&B newcomer Tone Stith has built quite the resume. From endless cover’s, providing songwriting material for Chris Brown, earning co-signs from Drake and Justin Bieber, performing alongside H.E.R. for her “I Use to know her Tour”, to inking a deal with RCA to further implement his talent. Coming out of Southern New Jersey he was brought into the music scene at a young age with his parents keeping a sound diet of healthy R&B acts on his plate with musical legends like James Taylor, Michael Jackson, Prince, The Beatles, and The Bee Gee-a classic on repeat. The influence is quite apparent in his projects “Can We Talk” and “Good Company” which embrace his contemporary au courant R&B style and vibrate vocals which can be felt in standout tracks like “Doin It for Me” and “Let Me”. In 2019 looks to continue his romantic R&B gospel and further rise the stake in his music career with more projects to drop.

Umi

“Being a musician is the most fulfilling passion in the entire world. Making music enhances my self-awareness because it allows me to better understand my own feelings and express those emotions/thoughts to those around me in a very authentic way.” Very Raw words from the 19-year old Seattle born artist but that is exactly what you get from her music. Umi’s sound is a mixture of lo-fi, alternative, and laid-back R&B style that molds well with her warm yet pure voice. Her music reminds you of days spent at the beach and carefree summers with tracks like “This Universe”, “Remember Me”, and “Butterfly” these also showcase the vocal talent as her voice effortlessly cruises over the melodies. Currently operating as an independent artist and a student currently enrolled at University of Southern California Umi is looking to break out in 2019 with more music, projects, shows, collaborations, tours, and festivals.

C.S. Armstrong

Houston born now LA-based Artist C.S. Armstrong is another artist on the list who is bridging the gap in blending the sound of R&B. If you were to take a walk inside the artist shoes, you’re sure to hear Legendary Artists like Buddy Holly, John Lee Hooker, Sarah Vaughan, Paul McCartney, and Ray Charles flow by his mainstream of music intake. In his recently released 10-song EP Project “Truth Be Told” these influences make perfect sense on why his sound is so special as he bends the R&B genre by combining Hip-Hop, Blues, and Rock while also staying true to his gospel roots in his delivery. Food for thought C.S. Armstrong is a jambalaya of sound you may not heard of before but oddly enough sound too familiar to ignore especially in stand out track “Still Can” which sounds like it came out of the ’60s or ’70s from your Grandmother or Grandfathers cassette player. Gaining the attention of COLORS Studio, Red Bull Sound Select Artist, and Air Jordan by Nike his stance in the industry is only going above and beyond in 2019 with his unique sound.

Symphani Soto

Sunshine State native but now residing in LA Symphani Soto’s beauty and charm is undeniable and her smooth, sultry, soulful R&B is a perfect match. The 25-Year-Old singer/songwriter is a Beauty and Fashion Connoisseur before she got into creating music as she models and has a Vlog series for makeup tutorials and beauty advice on her Youtube Channel. Symphani Soto feels as though “[She] fits perfectly” in this realm of R&B & Hip-Hop as she is in the corner of most people of the Millennial Generation who are searching for that 90’s R&B to be brought back. “I am” her latest project embodies that persona of old school R&B by keeping that Neo-Soul, and Jazz inspiration through her emotional vulnerability which she states is “inspired by personal relationships and experiences” which we all can relate to. On standout track “All I know” you can feel her sing from the heart, building off the trails and tribulations of her reality. Whether it’s her being a beauty guru or music maven Symphani Soto is looking to skyrocket to the top and surprise everyone with her endeavors in 2019.

Kyle Dion

If there’s one way to describe Kyle Dion I would have to say his sound is Miguel Meets Maxwell for a funk fuel R&B drive out the 90’s. The formerly South Floridian now LA-based artist is sure to have your mom insert him into her Old School R&B playlist and he would fit just perfectly as his timeless lush, funk, and soulful groove is sure to get them to bop. Standout tracks like “Brown”, “Cool Side of The Pillow”, and “On Fire” off his latest project “SUGA” display why he compares to R&B legend’s Maxwell and Usher as Kyle Dion’s airy and buttery vocals hold an impressive emotional gravity. His artistic, adventures and hyper-seriousness for his craft should push for a big 2019 after his sophomore project “SUGA” is sounding like one of the best R&B albums of the year so far.

VanJess

The Nigerian born sisters Ivana and Jessica Nwokike form the dynamic contemporary R&B duo VanJess who have a 90’s-inspired spinoff on their soulful sound. Taking inspiration from memorable 90s act like SWV, Jodeci, and Brandy, but also incorporating elements from artist like Da Brat, Jill Scott, and early TLC make there sound that much more lovable. The two sisters know how to play off one another with there cohesive sound as if they can read each other’s mind. Usually singing the lead Ivana has a deep well-rounded voice that “can cut across a song like a thunderclap” according to a Pitchfork article on the artist. Jessica comes in as the lighter voice that’s a bit scratchy that brings flair to all their tracks for support. Creating a singular bond over the years the two first started off doing cover’s on Youtube catching their break off a Drake “Headlines” cover that went viral. From there on they would go on to release their own work with a five-track EP “00 Till Escape” in 2015 than dropping their debut project “Silk Canvas” in 2018 that was well received. Standout tracks like “HoneyWheat”, “Control Me“ and “Addicted” are perfect examples of what they bring to R&B with there blend of a contemporary electronic touch with an effervescent bounce and vocal synergy. With all the success VanJess accumulated in 2018 with their “Silk Canvas” release, they look to build on that success in 2019.

Ravyn Lenae

Southside Chicago’s own Ravyn Lenae laminates energy that is wise beyond her years as she’s only 20 years of age. Her soft, composed falsetto is the signature to her futuristic soul that’s reminiscent of the great Erykah Badu. Her artistic breakthrough would come in 2015 working with Classick Studio with Producer Monte Booker and rapper Smino under their collective “Zero Fatigue” and releasing her first project with them “Moon Shoes” which would lead to her signing with Atlantic Records in 2016 and releasing her 2nd project “Midnight Moonlight”. Due to the success of her projects this would garner features from artist like Noname, Mick Jenkins, Saba, and getting opportunity to open up for SZA, and Noname on their respective tours. Crazy to think she accomplished all this while still in High School, but it goes to show how special her talent is and potential growth which peak in her latest project “Crush EP” which she exclusively worked with Steve Lacy to produce the project. The standout track “Sticky” is destined to be a fan favorite as the strutting guitar and jazzy coo’s usher her in like water to a sunflower blossoming in the sun with her unshakable falsetto to set the tone. Growing a rapid fanbase the artist who labels her sound for the R&B genre as “dreaming” due to her being able to channel blend R&B, Jazz, and pop to produce her eclectic sound is on the rise and doesn’t look to stop in 2019.

Joyner’s “Devil’s Work” Has Sparked an Industry Debate

0

Joyner Lucas (born Gary Maurice Lucas, Jr) is a rapper hailing from Worcester, Massachusetts who is a driving force of ‘new age’ conscious rap. Joyner has been active since 2007 using the stage name ‘Future Joyner’, releasing three mixtapes until eventually gaining popularity for his ‘Panda’ remix. Joyner is known to evoke varying reactions to his extremely controversial music and has been sparking a lot of discussion surrounding the topics he’s recently set his focus on. Since his blow up from the track ‘I’m not racist’, a song that showcases and tackles both sides of racism in modern America, Joyner has been consistent with releasing music that surrounds current social issues that he feels needs attention. This article encompasses his most recent single.

“Devil’s work” is the third single off of Joyner’s forthcoming album ADHD, and was released on the 2nd of May, 2019. The controversial single was released 6 months after the release of the first single off of the album. It has since been the center of debate all over social media with listeners questioning it’s intended message. In the track, Joyner mourns various rappers, leaders and other famous figures who passed or were murdered at a young age, or by a tragic circumstance. He can be seen in the walkway of a church, drinking a bottle of Hennessy while looking up at the figure of Jesus. He talks to God, letting him know that his prayers have not been answered and that our public figures are constantly being taken away from us especially our rappers. What makes the track so controversial is how Joyner begins to ask God why ‘good’ souls are being taken while ‘evil’ souls are still here on earth. He suggests that God exchange people who have passed for people who are still alive, most notably Tupac, Biggie and Nipsey Hussle for people such as Suge Knight, Donald Trump, and R Kelly. While fans of passed figures support Joyner’s wishes, many are unhappy with the explicit way that he asks God to take the lives of famous figures who are still alive, despite their flaws.

After receiving 2.2 million views on its first day, ‘Devil’s work’ has surely caught the attention of listeners and the media alike. With this track and many more like these Joyner is sure to shake up the industry even more than he already has. With his growing influence and a Grammy already under his belt, we can only expect Joyner to become a more prominent force in the music scene.

0

How Industry Plants are Destroying Rap’s Credibility

0

An industry plant typically refers to an artist that gains popularity over a short period of time, as the artist is normally backed up by a label with a substantial injection of funding and marketing. The term industry plant has gained mainstream popularity in recent years, as more and more artists seem to fit the description. An artist without a come-up is not nearly as respected as an artist who went through the struggle to attain the status he now holds in the rap game.

For the past few years, rappers and singers alike have been popping up in the hip-hop scene seemingly out of nowhere. Many of these artists have been causing more of an uproar around their supposed ‘come up’, or rather lack thereof, than their actual talent in the first place. Unfortunately, these artists normally have the minimal talent to speak of with only a handful actually having any noteworthy skill. The main reason many of these artists are chosen is more so due to their persona, marketability, and appeal they might have to a label’s targeted viewers.

A label generally has basic criteria for what they want in an artist they’re willing to pump their money into, mainly to be sure they’ll make a profit before making an investment. These artists are commonly offered a record deal, that gives them a substantial advance along with marketing and high-end production. This is almost certainly a guaranteed way of pushing an artist into the mainstream with listeners not knowing any better. The idea labels have when funding an industry plant, is to get them in front of as many viewers as possible. Once they’ve been heard by well over a million people the rest of the game is easy, only relying on fans, artists, and brands to show interest. It’s not long before record labels start seeing a return and the artist becomes sustainable on their own, but in this case, the label continues to make money until the deal has run its course. Most industry plants find the deal way too tempting to even question, and to the struggling artist, who can really blame them.

The number of artists who have recently been accused of being manufactured by labels unsurprisingly run in the dozens, though that’s not to say that all of them are. The most popular would include names such as Jumex, Baby Goth and most recently Iann Dior who is currently affiliated with the infamous collective Internet Money. These are some artists who show the telltale signs of industry plants, with a sudden spike in popularity, high profile features, and high budget music videos, etc. While the music they produce is of incredibly high quality, it’s often lacks anything unique or particularly special in an artistic sense. The unfortunate truth is that if these artists keeping getting manufactured at the rate that they are now, the quality of rap music will continue to deteriorate, and the hip-hop scene will lose its credibility. In the end, it’s up to the music community to decide whether or not they choose to listen to what’s being put in front of them. Ultimately we hope that they choose not to support the constant flow of label made artists in order to eventually block the path for industry plants to enter the music scene.

A Herpes Outbreak Rocked Coachella

0

It seems festival goers got a lot more than they bargained for at the massive weekend festival. Reports are flooding news outlets regarding an outbreak of Herpes at Coachella, one of the biggest music festivals in the country.

Held in Indio, California, this festival hosts over thousands of attendees who fly in from all over the country to witness their favorite musical acts.

HerpAlert is a website where users can send images of their ailments for diagnosis and receive a prescription treatment for the disease. Though Herpes can’t be cured, a prescription can treat symptoms. Normally the site issues about 12 diagnoses a day, but between April 12 and 21, in which both Coachella weekends took place, the site had over 250 cases reported per day.

Adding the numbers up, that’s about 1,150 cases in the towns surrounding the festival location, including Indio, Palm Desert, and Coachella Valley. Not to mention nearby Los Angeles, San Diego, and Orange.

Symptoms of the STD include painful blisters, ulcers, or open sores near the affected area. It can be transmitted through the mouth or through sexual intercourse.

Many festival-goers attended Coachella weekend hoping to catch a glimpse of their fave celebrities walking the grounds, maybe show off their outfit for Instagram, and see their favorite musical acts. But it seems that now that both weekends are over, some attendees have to find out the hard way that what happens in Coachella, doesn’t always stay in Coachella.

Breaking Barriers in the Rap Scene Meet Raging Star: Jasiah

0

Malachi-Phree Jasiah is a 23-year-old rising talent from Dayton, Ohio. Since starting his rap career in 2014 he’s been known by a few stage names including Phreethakid, Phreetherapper, and most commonly ‘Ja$iah’. Jasiah is a multi-talented individual who graduated from Silver School for the Arts, a middle and high school focused on visual and performing arts, as well as Marrieta college that helped shape his incredible music ability. Being a rapper, songwriter and music producer, many of Jasiah’s songs are fully self-produced showing his creativity and expansive skill set.

Jasiah started drawing notable attention in the underground alternative rap scene in 2017 with tracks such as “Crisis” and “Hahahahaha”, which featured mainly violent, screaming vocals. This style was extremely different from the music he released using his previous stage names and was heavily influenced by artists such as XXXTENTACION, for whom he also released a tribute track for. Being quite a private individual not much is known about his personal life, even considering his huge following garnered mainly in his past year of activity.

Jasiah has definitely made a mark in the rap scene and has gained a great following in a short space of time. With nearly 120,000 Instagram followers at the time of writing this article, it’s clear that Jasiah has no intention of slowing his momentum any time soon. While slowly evolving his skill set, Jasiah has made several notable collaborations, such as Ronny J, Yung Bans and most recently charts topping, Brooklyn born rapper, 6ix9ine. Starting with his first major collab Shenanigans, released on November 29th, 2018 featuring Yung Bans. Shenanigans were first released on Elevator’s YouTube channel and became his biggest song at the time, stabilizing his place in Hip-Hop’s incredibly competitive rap scene. It featured a cheerful, yet hard instrumental made in collaboration with one of Soundcloud’s most sought after producer’s Ronny J.

His most notable music-related achievement to date is his collaboration with the currently incarcerated rapper 6ix9ine, on his track “Case 19”. The track is a remix of the original Case 19, which originally featured Floridian rapper ‘$not’, and was the first song either of them released to reach 1 million plays on any platform. Whether 6ix9ine’s verse on Case 19 was recorded before or after his incarceration remains a mystery and is a topic many fans are actively questioning. Either way, the track is an absolute banger not failing to deliver Jasiah’s sick rhyme style and hard delivery, not to mention 6ix9ine’s signature aggressive feature verse.

It’s not hard to see why Jasiah’s relevance is increasing by the day, and with prominent collaborations as before mentioned he is bound to reach the level in hip-hop that he has been working towards for the past few years without much that can stand in his way. With his rapidly growing fan base, we can only hope that he succeeds in his pursuit to mimic his role models, and prove himself to be a powerful force of our era.

RECAP: Dreamville Festival

0

Nothing short of success and positive vibes is the only way to express J. Cole’s first annual Dreamville Festival over the past weekend. 40K Sold-out and all were in attendance for the festival. For my first time being in Raleigh, NC the city showed us a great time and Dorthea Dixie Park was the right size area for the festival as it wasn’t too packed at all. Now the main event is always the performances at festivals and being able to make time to see people you would love to see perform. The list consist of the acts are listed below and with most being the artist from the Dreamville Label.

THE SCENERY

The atmosphere from the festival was a “vibe” people just seemed to enjoy themselves whether it was seeing an artist perform, waiting in line for merch, or taking pictures with props/artwork that was provided at the festival. Some of the things that immediately caught my eye were some of the artwork. They had mural’s of fallen rap soldiers Mac Miller, Nipsey Hussle plus one of J. Cole himself and fans would patiently wait in line to get pictures with them.

THE PERFORMANCES

All the performances I did get to see were nothing short of great everyone did a stellar job at getting the crowd rocking. Now when it comes to festivals there are timeset’s to see each artist you’d like to see. Dreamville made it easy for fans to travel to each stage as there were only two “RISE” and “Shine”. Very clever for the names but each time frame to see a certain artist made it feasible to see each and everyone if you wanted to which is very unlikely in most festivals as they tend to have way more artist perform so more stages are set up and traveling to each stage can be a hassle. Now for my crew of people I went with we saw the following artist Teyana Taylor, Bas, J.I.D., Big Sean, SZA, and J. Cole of course.

Teyana Taylor

Now I must say TT showed up and showed out for her performance her choreography was great. She sure did get the crowd energized especially when she started hitting the Milly rock but her vocals were just as strong as her dancing and made me appreciate her even more. As it takes a hell of a talent to be able to dance and sing on stage.

Bas

The “FIENDS” were out for one of the leaders at the helm of Dreamville. Me being a fiend at the concert was truly satisfied as I’ve followed Bas since his “Quarter Water Raised Me Vol.2” mixtape when he first signed to the label so seeing him perform was a breath of fresh air. The highlight of Bas performance was when he did his hit single “Lit” which features Cole he would perform his two verses but to wrap it up he let a fan come on stage and do Cole’s verse. The fan was more than excited executing the verse perfectly surging the energy throughout the field.

J.I.D.

Dreamville’s Destined star to blow up the industry and some would say J. Cole’s prodigy as he raps in the artist track “Off Deez” “J.I.D. the closest thing to me”. Now just as I heard in reviews and see in video clips on social media J.I.D. is just as advertised. His surgical raps def will get you hyped when he’s rapping bar for bar on stage. One of the highlights would be him freestyling off the head for about a minute hitting every bar with ease. If you haven’t seen him live yet I advise you do and get ready for Earthgang and a moshpit once “NEVER” comes on.

Big Sean

Another artist I been following since my college days which began in 2010. “The Don” which he often references himself as came through performing all the classics from his verses on “Mercy”, “Don’t Like” to “Moves” and “One Man Can Change The World”. His performance was very heartfelt during his message to the crowd during his Nipsey tribute which he ended with a verse for him.

SZA

Now out of all the artist, I must say I was most happy to see SZA live. Now before going to see her, she had taken criticism as she didn’t sound great live but boy did she put that shit to shame as she sang her ass off on that stage. Opening up to “Supermodel” the opening track on her critically acclaim album “ctrl” she showcased her vocal ability to be very strong. One thing I loved most about SZA’s performance was her being carefree on stage dancing to her songs showing how free-spirited she is, for example, someone threw a wig on stage and she kept singing her heart out with it hand to “20 Something” it just made me love her even more. A couple of highlights to her performance would be her “Kiss Me” cover and twerking to Megan Thee Stallion’s “Big Ole Freak” track which got the crowd super hyped and didn’t help as my friend would say she was looking like a “sniggity snack” on stage.

J. Cole

The main event the goat and mastermind behind the whole festival made sure the best was saved for last. This would be my 4th time seeing Cole live as I’ve seen him perform during certain era’s (Friday Night Lights, 4YEO, and KOD) but this performance just hit different for me and you’ll see why. The crowd chanting J. Cole once he came on stage as he just looked in disbelief at the 40K people in the crowd as he went on to perform “Middle Child”. Cole would then go on to perform mixtape classics “Grown Simba” and “Back To the Topic”. Cole would also bring out a couple of artists to perform first was 21 Savage for his single “A Lot” that he’s featured on and the next one much to everyone’s surprise was Meek Mill. Performing three tracks “Uptown Vibes”, “Going Bad”, and “Dream & Nightmares Intro” his performance made the crowd flare up just off his voice alone. Cole went go on and perform some more of his tracks from his already legendary discography. Finishing off the festival with his legendary stamp it would climax the first Dreamville Fest as a success.

Nipsey Hussle

In the face of tragedy, the Dreamville Festival was a safe haven for all fans. As many of us were still mourning the recent loss of THE LEGEND NIPSEY HUSSLE. Just about each artist paid some sort of tribute to the fallen artist. Some of the most notable artists were Teyana Taylor who dedicated her song performance of “Gonna Love Me” to Nipsey and his loved ones. The other notable artist was Big Sean who had a heartfelt message expressing us to keep being inspired by all the work Nipsey did to uplift his community of people and he also gave us a verse dedicated to the artist that was heartfelt. Lastly, of course, was Cole who gave a speech and dedicated his song performance “Love Yours” to Nipsey which the crowd had there cellphone’s in the air lighting up the crowd which made for a memorable moment.

The Dreamville Festival was an unforgettable event and I advised everyone to go to next years event if you can.

The news has just been released that Beyonce is dropping a documentary “Homecoming: A Film By Beyonce” with massive streaming service, Netflix. As for the Netflix documentary, the premise of the special will be on Beyonce’s memorable Coachella performance from last year, which has been rightly dubbed as ‘Beychella’, considering how much popularity and streaming views the performance garnered overnight. The documentary will take a closer look at the iconic performance and all the moments leading up to it. Homecoming will be released on April 17th.

But until then, what has Beyonce been up to now? On July 19th of this year, Beyonce will appear in theaters voicing Nala on a live-action remake of Disney’s The Lion King, alongside Donald Glover as Simba, and accompanied by a star-studded cast. Also, the news has recently broke that the singer has teamed up with cult-favorite brand Adidas to drop some new shoes, as well as some brand new apparel designs in collaboration with her Ivy Park line.
