It’s a sad day for New York Giants fans all around the world. Not only did they just have to endure a horrible season, but fans are also realizing there will be many more horrible seasons to come. Giants General Manager Dave Gettleman held a press conference on February 27th where he told the media “the Giants didn’t sign Beckham to trade him.” However less than two weeks later Odell Beckham Jr was shipped out of town. Last night Odell Beckham Jr was traded to the Cleveland Browns for a 1st round pick, 3rd round pick, and safety Jabrill Peppers. Odell and Eli will still be on the Giants books for next season which will hold up 20% of the teams’ cap space.

Reports suggest that both parties were fed up with each other and this split was coming sometime down the line. According to Ex- NFL legend Cris Carter he spoke to Odell at the Super bowl where Cris said he expressed concerns to him that Odell felt the Giants were going to trade him.  Although Giants fans may have been surprised by the move those that objectively look at the situation could see signs of this coming. As the Giants commit to this rebuild they will have a 38 year old Eli Manning, Saquon Barkley and that first round pick that should be used to pick up your QB of the future. While on the other end you have the Browns making a push for power in the NFL by picking up Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry. Jarvis and Odell will be the perfect one, two punch because since they know each other and are good friends they won’t be upset when the other shines in any particular game.

All in all this was a good move for all parties, Odell gets out from under an aging and debilitated Eli Manning, Eli Manning will be allowed to go out on his own terms now, the Giants doesn’t have to deal with Odell anymore and the Cleveland Browns have a chance to make some real noise. Even the NFL won due to the fact that they are getting coverage and is trending on social media in March. The only people I feel bad for is Saquon Barkley because and Giants fans they will be stuck in this dysfunction for years to come.
