The University of Virginia nabbed their first NCAA men’s basketball national championship in an exhilarating overtime game versus Texas Tech University. Both teams played top-notch defense which only made their offense more exciting since every bucket had to be earned the hard way. The final score of this classic championship game was 85-77. The Virginia Cavs finished the season with a record of 35-3 in which two of those losses were to Duke so they only lost to two different teams.
The leading scorers for The Cavaliers were De’Andre Hunter with 27 and seven, while Kyle Guy blazed the raiders for 24. The team’s leading rebounder was Braxton Key (10 boards) and 3 other players had 7 rebounds. The most well-rounded game must go to Ty Jerome who had 16 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds.
The Red Raiders were no slouches now! The Raiders finished the season with a record of 31-7, dominated in the tournament and had a shot at the end of regulation to win it. Their attack came more balanced with five players netting double figures. Jarrett Culver raises his draft stock substantially with his performance all tournament. He hit a dry spell offensively early but showed great focus and defensive intensity. His talent and skill set reminds me of Kawhi Leonard. He finished this game with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. Brandone Francis added 17 points while guard Davide Moretti dropped 15 of his own.
This was only the eighth overtime game in national championship history. Played by two teams that were making their first appearance. Both teams played their hearts out and left everything on the floor unfortunately only one can take home the crown. With that being said Congratulations to NCAA’s 2019 national champions The Virginia Cavaliers!!
