Introduction to Pete

Pete Buttigieg has been in the media a lot recently, with the BBC even naming him a “Democratic star.” Buttigieg is certainly a very attractive candidate in this upcoming 2020 election; however, Pete is not just a democratic star. In fact, he seems to be becoming a candidate that appeals to both parties – and if you search Pete Buttigieg Interviews on Youtube, you might find that a lot of comments from republicans express how they like the guy. In particular, Pete is liked for his direct answers to questions, which show a real drive and interest in what’s best for America – not for the purpose of pursuing of a political agenda or making a comment that will make sure his constituency win his senate seat for him.

Pete’s Background

He has graduated both Harvard University and Oxford University, after which he returned to his hometown, South Bend, Indiana because he said that he felt like he could better serve his community. In 2012, he became mayor of South Bend, which is a position he still holds today. He has also worked at Mckinsey and Company and as an officer for the United States Naval Reserve. On April 14th, he officially announced he was running for President.

Policies & Political Leanings

While republicans do seem to like him and his attitude towards politics, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Pete Buttigieg is a very moderate candidate – most of his politics do align very well with democratic ideals, as you might expect for a democratic candidate. However, what republicans and democrats seem to like about him most is his approach to problems; his thinking is not narrow-minded towards a particular side of the political spectrum. Just by watching interviews, you’ll find that he considers each issue brought to him fully before giving an honest take on the issue and what we can do to help it. In this way, he is simply not a typical politician or typical democrat or republican – which, in a totally different sense, we all know republicans wanted in 2016.

This makes Pete especially attractive for the 2020 race from all parties because this makes him someone who appeals to republicans and could therefore win the race against Donald Trump – and for some people, defeating Trump is what they care the most about.

So, Why Might America Vote For Him?

In my opinion, he’s appealing in terms of representing values that most Americans hope to abide by; his loving relationship with his family, including his husband and his dogs, is aspirational, and if you don’t follow all of his dogs on twitter, I highly suggest you do (truman and buddy buttigieg). There is something happy and meaningful about his family life and his dedication to his faith, and I think a lot of Americans want to vote for someone who represents this. Not only that, but he is a stark contrast to Donald Trump, who the majority feel is incompetent for the White House. Not only is Pete obviously competent, but he is steady – there’s not going to be any random Twitter outbursts and he’s not going to be headlining everyday. Simply put, Americans won’t feel uneasy about him being in the White House. Lastly, Pete is a scholar. In other words, he knows what he’s talking about.

Potential Profile in the 2020 Race

Pete’s cool, personable, and smart. He contrasts Donald Trump in every way, representing humility, calmness, intelligence, and real interest in America. Instead of running America like a business, maybe he’ll just run the country how it’s supposed to be run.
