As 90’s babies, we grew up watching the best that TV had to offer. If there weren’t any new shows on, we still had access to old classic shows on programs like Nick at Nite, TvLand, etc. This list represents shows whose theme songs, I either loved, hated, or will never forget for other reasons. Here are the Top 10 most Iconic TV Theme songs from my childhood. If you agree or disagree comment below with your top 10.
10. The Brady Bunch
Yes, I used to watch this show as a child, when nothing else was on. The Brady Bunch Theme Song, in my opinion, had to be one of the most annoying of all time. Even so, pretty much everyone in America knows the words to this song. This theme song is definitely Iconic and deserves a spot on my top 10.
9. Doug
This theme song is classic! I can remember all the mornings getting up and getting ready for elementary school and turning on Nick as soon as I got the chance. I can see my self now with a big bowl of frosted flakes in my lap as I watched Doug & Pepper ann, before leaving for school. The crazy thing is throughout the entire song there aren’t any real words spoken but still and all, when the jingle came on every morning I was humming along. This theme song is classic!
8. Living Single
To be honest I only watched this show because my older brother use to take over the TV when I was kid to watch this. Luckily the show ended up growing on me. Now whenever I hear this song I just think 90’s and I get this nostalgic feeling. The living single theme song slapped, and still makes me want to hit a dance move real quick whenever I hear it.
7. SpongeBob Squarepants
This one is an easy call. As a 26 year old, I remember as a kid when the first episode of Spongebob aired, and like almost every other kid I knew back then, I became hooked. I don’t care who you are, if you’re between the age of 8-35 you know this theme song whether you watched it yourself or your children did! Its no wonder this song has over 44 Million youtube views. If you disagree walk up to anyone within the age range I just listed and ask them “Who lives in a pineapple under the sea”.
6. The Jeffersons
This one also needs no introduction. Obviously, I am only 26 so this show was way before my time, but I did get the opportunity to watch a ton of re-runs. This show is a classic and was straight up hilarious! This theme song is most definitely Iconic and is probably known by most adults in America.
5. Happy Days
This is another show that was way before my time and was on TV pretty much at the same time as the Jeffersons. (The 70’s – late 80’s were TV’s golden age according to my parents). I only got to see the re-runs as a kid on Nick at Nite, but I instantly fell in love with this show and the nostalgic feel everyone gets watching it. Hands down one of the most Iconic theme songs in American TV History.
4. Friends
Another show that my older brother put me on to. At first, I didn’t appreciate Friends, it took binge-watching the entire series on Netflix as an adult to fully grasp how hilarious the show was. It deserves all the acclaim and is probably ONE OF the best comedy sitcoms to ever be aired on television.
3. Law & Order SVU
This is one of the longest running shows of all time so its no wonder its theme song is Iconic. My grandmother loved this show and that’s how I was originally introduced to it. Although this is another song with no words everyone knows the tune when they hear it!
2. Cheers
Another show that’s before my time. The final episode of this show aired before I turned 1 year old, but luckily I was able to catch all of the re-runs on Nick at Nite. I really liked the show, but the theme song, in my opinion, is one of the greatest of all time. Whenever I hear it I think of the good days when I was a kid and should have been sleeping but instead, I was watching cheers like every other 8-year-old kid right? Probably not but either way you can’t lie this theme song is awesome.
1. Fresh Prince of Bel-air
“First things first Rest In Peace Uncle Phil” The greatest theme song of all time Undoubtedly goes to the Fresh Prince. Ask any 90’s American kid no matter their race, location, or age, they will know this song by heart. In my opinion one of the greatest comedies to ever air on tv, I have probably seen every episode, and every time the time song comes on you just have to sing along!
